almost 11 DAYS to go… and we might no longer have our VENUE!!

Our venue was the auditorium at the Faculty of Veterinary Science in Pretoria.  It was set three months ago and today I hear, that in two weeks time, it may not be safe enough to host an event.

Am I angry?  I don’t know.  I saw the email just after church this morning.  I got back to my car, drove to Pick n Pay to buy cream, but before I got out, I rested my head on the steering wheel and let myself cry.

“ACCESS TO EDUCATION FOR ALL” – that is the war cry of the #FeesMustFall movement.  This One Health Zoonotic Day was completely free for every person attending.  All the awareness material that was going to be handed out, was designed and printed at our cost, the food was paid for by GDARD, the venue was feasible, so no person attending would have to pay a cent.  The day was supposed to be EDUCATING people who are at risk of getting sick in their day to day job working with animals.  It was FREE EDUCATION!!! It was FREE ACCESS for those who are in desperate need of this education.

And now, education itself is hijacked by students who are demanding it be free!

Institutes of learning is no longer safe to learn in!

What good is crying over a steering wheel?  What is one student team against a mob of students? When was it ever right for education itself to be threatened??  I feel like screaming!

One Health… Is it possible at all, if the very infrastructure of our access to education is crumbling because of those who are holding it hostage to demand free education?

What happens now?… I don’t know… I just don’t know….
